Long Term Update 4: 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T

"This car occupies a very specific niche -- one sought by, based on my estimation of the demographics of those who gave me thumbs-up over the weekend, older guys who listen to very loud Van Halen. If that's the target, the DODGE CHALLENGER hits it squarely like a bright blue 4500-pound block of iron," writes assistant Web producer Carlos Lago.

"The DODGE CHALLENGER is a big boat of a car. The suspension soaks up bumps and undulations as a fishing boat does ocean waves. It can feel unwieldy down tight roads or on a crowded freeway, and it's especially worse in the rain; there's a delay between what the wheels do and when you perceive it through the cabin. The DODGE CHALLENGER prefers 7/10ths driving and a relaxed pace. There's just space everywhere, a seemingly endless expanse. I'd enjoy it more if the car were 7/8 scale."

2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Months/miles in service 9/16,581 Avg econ/CO2 17.6 mpg/1.10 lb/mi Unresolved problems None Maintenance cost $116.52 (2 - oil change/inspection/rotate tires) Normal-wear cost $0
