First Drive: Ruf RT12 R
At first glance, this might look like a mildly tuned Porsche 911. It even kind of feels like one. But it's not even in the same ballpark. This is the Ruf RT12 R, one of the very best supercars on the road, and a machine that reduces me to a gibbering wreck after the first full slug of gas.

Because on the most innocuous-looking back road, this monster hits 125 mph in just a shade over 9.5 seconds, rivaling the likes of the Ferrari Enzo and leaving the 458 Italia in its wake. See, Ruf is not a tuner. It's a manufacturer that happens to use the Porsche's basic shell and not much else. The Ruf RT12 R essentially is a lion in wolf's clothing.

Only the experts who remember the record-breaking...

First Drive: 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Turbo
Racetracks are fine locations for automakers to introduce new models to the press. Porsche invited journalists to drive the current 911 GT3 at the Autodromo at Adria, for example. Ferrari brought its 599 GTO to Italy's Mugello circuit. And now Chevrolet has brought the 2012 Sonic Turbo, a subcompact five-door hatch, to Lucas Oil Raceway, a drag strip in a sleepy corner of Indianapolis, Indiana, mere miles from the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Okay, the "track" we're using is actually a temporary autocross course, the boundaries of which are defined by the winding access roads serving the nearby drag strip, and a smattering of orange pylons. Still, Chevy makes a bold statement by presenting...

First Test: 2012 Nissan GT-R
Under a full 20 psi boost blitz with the new launch control (aka R Mode Start Function) engaged, all 530 twin-turbocharged horses and 448 pound-feet of thrust catapult a motionless all-wheel drive 2012 Nissan GT-R to 60 mph in a blistering 2.9 seconds. The car that in 2007 changed a number of performance reference points is changing them once again.

For those unfamiliar with speed, the new GT-R achieves a kind of quickness expected from the automotive world's uppermost crust -- those with six-figure price tags attached or with ultra-limited production numbers. These include the $130,000-plus Porsche Turbo PDK (0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds) and multi-million dollar Bugatti Veyron (2.7 seconds). A...

First Look: Ferrari FF
Amadeo Felisa, Ferrari's chief executive and veteran engineer, says his all-new Ferrari FF four-seater is as fast around a track as a 599. "Not the GTO," he adds hastily, "but the regular 599." For the FF to be as fast as the shattering (and shatteringly hard-to-drive) GTO would be impossible. For it to be as quick as the regular 599 is merely miraculous.

Ferrari people are suspiciously keen to stress the Ferrari-ness of their new car. Could this be because the last time they strayed from their supersports heartland with the California, they suffered a squall of criticism for going soft and selling out?

Well, if the California tore the envelope of the traditional Ferrari ideal, then the new...

First Look: Lancia Stratos
We all had a dream car when we were children, but most of us will never own the exotic machine that adorned our bedroom walls so many years ago. The lucky few individuals that do usually buy decades-old supercars that more often than not are disappointing by modern standards. But for one lucky (and obviously very wealthy) man, the dream of owning a brand-new Lancia Stratos has become a reality.

Michael Stoschek wasn't satisfied owning and racing a classic Stratos. He and his son Maximilion wanted a recreation of the 1970s rally icon but built to their specifications using modern technology and construction methods. After participating in the building of a design project known as Fenomenon,...

First Drive: Ken Okuyama's KO7 Roadster
Designer extraordinaire Ken Okuyama's love for cars is matched by his love for wristwatches, especially those from TAG Heuer. He prizes these precision timepieces so much that he has achieved an industry first: He has created a sports car inspired by one of those watches, a Grand Carrera. His KO7 roadster might employ a Lotus Elise R platform and powertrain, but that's where the similarity ends. In an exclusive test drive, we traveled 230 miles north of Tokyo to his hometown of Yamagata to be the first behind the wheel of the rare coupe.

But before Okuyama let us near his four-wheeled masterpiece, we found ourselves on a guided tour of one of the most amazing, multi-faceted design studios....

First Look: Ferrari 599 SA Aperta
After nearly 58 years together, do you think Ferrari management would forget Pininfarina's birthday? Not a chance. To properly wish the bodybuilder-turned-design house well on its 80th anniversary, the folks in Maranello have created a fitting tribute: the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta.

The SA in that awkward name stands for Superamerica, and like the 575M Superamerica that came before it, the new SA Aperta is a version of Ferrari's front-engine, V-12 sports coupe that exposes its occupants to the elements. Unlike the previous Superamerica, however, the SA Aperta does without a fancy flip-around top -- or any top mechanism, for that matter. Aperta is Italian for "open," and apart from a rudimentary...

First Drive: 2010 G-Power M5 Hurricane RR
The likes of Audi's RS 6 and the BMW M5 have taken the super sedan arms race to a near-irrational extreme. Then there are cars like the G-Power M5 Hurricane RR -- the world's fastest sedan and the atom bomb of the four-door world -- that go way, way past irrational.

Because this is 800 horsepower of twin-supercharged sedan, the Hurricane will stick wheel-to-wheel with a Ferrari 458 Italia to 125 mph and then blow it off the road when things get stupid. And it's the very same car that just stormed to a new four-door record of 231 mph -- besting G-Power's own mark, set with a lesser version of the same car.

And the best part is that without the faux carbon wrap, this Hurricane would simply recede...

First Test: 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe
We're in tough company: A couple of Bugatti Veyrons and a Lamborghini Reventon roadster jostle with a Ferrari 458 Italia and a 599 GTO. A Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG leads various Maserati Gran Turismos, a brace of Alfa Romeo 8Cs, and a white Lexus LFA. And at the head of the line is the new McLaren MP4-12C, making its world debut in the same shade of orange the Bruce and Denny Show used to paint their Can-Am-conquering M8 racers back in the '60s. At the wheel is current F1 world champion Jenson Button.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe I'm driving is also making its world debut here in the Supercar Run at Britain's astonishing Goodwood Festival of Speed, the world's greatest car show. This will be...
